The Witcher 4 was officially announced, but should still have a long time to wait. Apparently, the right people should now be hired to develop the game at all. For this, among other things, the new Game Director of the next The Witcher game promotes. He even promises that there will be no crunch and a good working atmosphere as long as he says. However, these statements can be enjoyed with caution.

The Witcher 4 is supposed to arise without compulsory crunch

That’s why it’s : The Witcher 4 or whatever the game is called, should appear at some point. So we now also know highly working, which was clear anyway. At the same time, however, it was also announced that the next The Witcher game is developed on the basis of the Unreal Engine 5 and CD project red for people needs. These people should be exposed to good working conditions and no obligatory crunch, explains the Game Director.

On his Twitter account, Jason Slama reveals that he slips into the role of the Game Director for the next The Witcher. At the same time, he stems the advertising drum to join for the development team and apply to CD project Red.

Supposedly no crunch: In response to a tweet in which the previous working conditions and the crunch was discussed at CD project red, Jason Slama reacts with an enthusiastical “Not on my watch!”. What is obvious, he would make sure that such can not happen under his leadership. We should be curious if that works.

Crunchtime promise of CD project Red are with great care to enjoy

What is Crunch? As crunchtime, the time is traditionally called a video game shortly before completion. These are often the last sprint to get everything ready, with a deadline in the neck. This often often result in compulsory overtime and stressed people without private life but with mental health problems that make even more mistakes.

Strictly speaking, Crunch does not have to be, but in bad planning and a corresponding corporate culture as well as working atmosphere, the industry still occurs regularly. Not only at Naughty Dog or Rockstar. The Witcher 3 \ – and Cyberpunk 2077 developer studio CD project Red has been repeatedly negative in the past.

Tradition at CDPR: Especially with regard to large promises, the statements from this direction are therefore to be enjoyed with a lot of caution. CD project Red-StudioJOf Adam Badowski had initially claimed in the development of cyberpunk 2077, there will be no crunch – and then broke his own promise.

Crunch at Cyberpunk 2077

CD project Red has broken his promise

However, all this has done anything , because the game – as we know – despite many shifts (which has also been promised, they would not happen) unfinished – with even more and longer crunch as a result. Apparently, the entire planning and production as well as time management ran extremely here. The game is slowly approximately in good condition over a year after release, but the developers are still working on bugfixes. We can only hope that the next The Witcher will be quite different.

When is the Witcher 4? That is not fixed yet, so far no release period has been given. But it should probably take a while and several years before it’s time. In 2024, you should not count on it, more later.

How do you find the crunch promise? Do you think it can work this time?
